Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

If you follow our blog you know that we review household products from time to time and give you our opinions regarding the products and their claims. Today we are going to look at a product by Proctor & Gamble - Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser.

Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser is a multi-surface cleaner that is made in Germany but packaged in the USA. According to the box the foaming multi-purpose cleaner will erase soap scum, hard water stains and more. This product comes in a box with (2) sponges and according to the Material Safety Data Sheet has only ONE ingredient Ethanol. Each eraser has less than 1% of ethanol (more commonly known as alcohol). The packaging also makes this following claim - "CONTAINS NO PHOSPHATE".  Federal law prohibits phosphates in all of our household cleaners so I would guess this a more of a selling point to the "green" folks.

Because this product is on the acid side with a pH of 5.7-5.9 is one of the reasons it will work on removing soap scum from glass shower doors. I have seen this product in action, used on a glass shower door, and was very impressed with the results. This product may also work well on porcelain, major appliances, sinks and cultured marble vanities. It may also work very well on removing that 'ring' around the bath tub. Because it is on the acid side I would not recommend using it on tile & grout. The acid from the ethanol will eventually break down the grout and ruin it.

BEE STINGS!

Now that summer is here so are the bees, wasps, and hornets. Sacramento State University's mascot is the Hornets because this little creature is found throughout the Sacramento Valley. Yesterday, while mowing my backyard lawn, I noticed several Hornets nests along my wooden fence. If you have ever been stung be a bee, wasp, or hornet you know how painful it can be. The next time you go out into the yard or garden may I suggest taking a penny with you.

The copper in the penny counteracts the poison from the insect bite. Simply tape a copper penny over the bite and you should feel better immediately. Leave the penny on the bite overnight and you should have no swelling nor any redness. Please keep in mind that this is NOT a substitute for your physician's advice if you are allergic to these types of insects. Never the less this is something that works! So, keep a roll of pennies handy - just in case!
